Dev Deepawali & Kartik Purnima 2026

Date: Tuesday, 24 November 2026
Observance: Kartik Purnima — fifteen days after Diwali

On Kartik Purnima the gods are believed to come down to the Ganga to celebrate their own Diwali — so Varanasi answers by lighting its eighty-four ghats with lakhs of earthen lamps. The day marks Shiva's victory over the demon Tripurasura and is also kept as Tripuri Purnima.

The Purnima tithi runs from 11:42 PM on 23 November to 8:23 PM on 24 November (IST). The same full moon is Guru Nanak Jayanti for Sikhs and Karthigai Deepam in Tamil homes, where lamps are lit for Shiva and Murugan. A dawn bath, a day of charity and lamps at dusk are the day's simple observances.

Tithi timings shift a little by city — check today's panchang for the day itself, and see where the festival season falls in your own chart with a free kundli.
